Happy Halloween...

Hey everyone

I'm spending this Halloween as I did last year - with my uni buddies at the Halloween Ball - I'm so excited! There's gonna be some awesome Halloween attractions and live bands - couldn't be more perfect!

I'm dressing up as Medusa this year - I thought that it was perfect with my crazy curly hair - and pretty unusual; I haven't heard of many Medusa's this Halloween :) -  what are you/have you dressing/dressed up as?

What are you doing this Halloween - let me know in the comments :)

Hope y'all have an awesome Halloween - stay safe!

Bloggers Block...

Hey everyone

You may not have noticed but I've been pretty absent from the blogging world as of late - it's because I've got a bad case of...

Every blogger experiences that complete lack of ideas at some point (even the best ones) so sometimes you just have to take an unprecedented break from your baby (just me who thinks of their blog as their baby #callmecrazy), step back, find out what changed and re-capture your inspiration.

For me, I realised that I was obsessing over scheduling my posts every day so I'd be considered a 'better' blogger  - I lost the spark of creativity that came with posting 'off the cuff' and blogging about whatever sprang to mind that I had when I first started this blog. I realised that I was become caught up with statistics - page views followers and especially comments - things that just didn't matter to me when I first started writing this blog - that really got to me. It shouldn't matter to me if my blog gets no comments or a million comments - this is a place to blog about things I want to document and things I enjoy; I shouldn't be posting just to feel appreciated when someone comments.

I just got a big bad case of the 'ohmigosh no one really cares about what I post - why am I even writing this, no one will read it...' self doubties going on. That sucked.

I've been blogging for a year now and to be honest I think I was trying to run before I could walk - I need to somehow revert to how I was when I first started blogging and just blog for the fun of it! I need to have confidence in myself  and what I want to write about because after all I'm the one I'm blogging for.

No don't get me wrong I love receiving comments on my blog but really they're not the 'be all and end all' are they? I don't think they should be anyway.

So in short I'm still keeping up with reading my bloglist (and commenting - don't you worry!) but I'm still gonna be figuring out getting back into blogging for a little while longer and for that I'm really sorry but when I regain my enthusiasm for blogging again rest assured I will be posting...

Does anyone else feel like this sometimes? Any encouragement would be gratefully received - this just sounds like I'm begging - stop now! :S

Book Club Friday: The House Of Silk...

Hey everyone

I am so happy to be linking up with Blonde...Undercover Blonde for this link up again this week! I've missed a couple of weeks because I've really not had time to read (I know, I know - I should make time!) due to the craziness of starting back to uni and getting back into the swing of actually studying after having the summer off :P

This week I'm sharing - The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz

Synopsis (via Goodreads
It is November 1890 and London is gripped by a merciless winter. Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are enjoying tea by the fire when an agitated gentleman arrives unannounced at 221b Baker Street. He begs Holmes for help, telling the unnerving story of a scar-faced man with piercing eyes who has stalked him in recent weeks.
Intrigued, Holmes and Watson find themselves swiftly drawn into a series of puzzling and sinister events, stretching from the gas-lit streets of London to the teeming criminal underworld of Boston and the mysterious 'House of Silk'...

My Thoughts
Ever since I read a selection of the classic Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle this past summer (read my Book Club Friday post on it here) I have become legit obsessed with Sherlock Holmes (I ended up watching the all of the BBC 'Sherlock' episodes in a day #sorryimnotsorry) and basically detective/crime novels in general (which is great seeing as I was getting a tad tired of the same genres of books - either chick lit or dystopian society-that seem to be everywhere at the moment!). Anyway I walked into the bookstore and my eyes immediately spotted the 'the new Sherlock Holmes novel' on the front of this books and before I had even read the blurb it was in my hands and I was on my to the till!

I was initially quite apprehensive about reading this- only because the original stories were so clever I didn't think any other author could match Conan Doyle's writing style and amazing plots! But boy was I proved wrong! Horowitz did a perfect job of emulating the classic Holmes stories whilst still adding his own take on things - I particularly liked how he decided to add the Watson backstory to how he was re-telling these events - very clever! It honestly feels like you are reading another classic Holmes novel - the historical setting and language used is just spot on!

The plot itself honestly kept me guessing all the way through! There were two cases all linked up with each other and I didn't guess how they were connected until right at the very end - so engaging! As for the whole unravelling I can honestly say that I didn't expect that outcome at all

I really enjoyed the character development of Holmes too - you get to see a softer side to him which is always nice; if not he could have come across as a tad cold and unrelatable with this difficult and compromising case.

I'd definitely recommend this book even if you haven't read any other Sherlock Holmes books - it's amazing!

Would you read this book?

A Very Special MWIP...

Hey everyone

So this weeks MWIP is a special one - seeing as of today I have been blogging for a year (my earlier post today was my blogaversay post) I wanted to do something to commemorate it. Beacuse my MWIP posts have been most most consitent feature on my blog over the past year - because they're great fun to write and great documentation! - I decided that it'd be fun to make my MWIP posts a link up :D

I'd love to see what other peoples MWIP posts are so please link up with me :)
(I'd be over the moon if you did!)

Anywho - here's MWIP..
I've started to obsessively set alarms - I literally set an alarm for everything; waking up, leaving the house, study breaks and yes I've even taking to scheduling in my reading time before bed! #sorryimnotsorry

My absolute fave autumn late lunch/early dinner - cup-a-soup, sandwich and crisps #perfect

I actually love how confusing this looks but how I actually understand it!

Not enjoying how many assessments I have due in the upcoming weeks :( In November there's only one week in which I don't have anything due and to be honest I'm not holding my breath that that will stay free!

I had a lazy day on Friday, I wore a lovely cozy sweater and JW sweatpants to uni #sorryimnotsorry

I'm loving this autumn sunshine we've been having in parts these last few days :)

I resisted until Saturday before going out and buying this - I was having trouble fitting it into my budget but I caved and couldn't wait any longer! #fangirling

This weeks nail polish was something from Nails Inc. - my apologies but I can't for the life of me remember the name :S it's like a grey/green colour so it's quite unusual if that's any use in figuring out which one it is :S

Best. Bf. Ever. For spotting this and buying it for me!  Oreos and Cadburys are a match made in heaven - who knew?!

I couldn't believe how perfect this books was for me - gotta love me some microbio #suchageek #bringingmyworkhome

I was rather ashamed to see how many spelling mistakes were on this one lecture slide! Tut tut :P

The bf treated me to brunch out on Monday - it was naughty but so incredibly yummy!

Revision has begun again in preparation for my MedLabs test next Wednesday on Clinical Pathology; to be honest I'm quite enjoying learning about this topic!

K and I were bored and restless during our frees on Tuesday so we decided to give up trying to study and went for a walk around campus instead - it was so pretty! We are definitely going to dedicate some time in the future to discovering where this gorgeous path leads!

Another shot from our campus walk - I fell in love with how this tree looked! I feel so lucky to be settled at this beautiful uni - I can't believe I'm in my 2nd year there already!

I hope you link up with me - I'd love to see your MWIPs :)

One Year Blogaversary!!...

Hey everyone

So today is a momentous milestone in my of today my little blog is one year old

I can't believe that I've been blogging for a whole year - a whole 180 posts later  and two re-designs and I'm still going strong! I'm really impressed with myself that I have continued to keep up with blogging for this long - seeing as I initially only started my blog as a way of retaining some form of writing in my life seeing as I was starting my science degree at uni and therefore leaving my days of studying English behind me.

Just for a laugh here's my first post by the way - to be honest I feel like this is still a pretty good description of myself even a year on - I still desperately want to travel, particularly to the South; I'm still obsessed over anything American (my latest obsession is monograms of course!), my unhealthy appetite for spending my money is still present (much to the upset of my bank balance) and what was my guilty pleasure of listening to country music has become a permanent fixture on any playlist I make :)

I am so incredibly amazed and grateful that my blog has 33 followers (to be honest I didn't expect to ever even have one!), that you guys reading comment on my posts and that people actually read my blog (6000 pageviews! - that's awesomely crazy!) - that means the world.

Here are some of my fave posts from this past year...
Having successfully blogged for a year with no expectations or ambitions I decided that this year I'd like to set some goals for this little blog of mine and myself..
  1. Successfully start my own link-up (hint hint)
  2. Participate in a swap :)
  3. Reach 100 followers (go big or go home after all!)
  4. Pluck up the courage to promote my blog on twitter (I'm unsure of what my IRL friends might think of me blogging so I've always put myself off doing this)
  5. Initiate more button swaps
  6. Participate in a blog takeover for a post - ie. someone blogs on my blog and I blog on theirs
I think that's more than enough to be getting on with!

So thank you again for be a reader of my blog - I really appreciate every pageview, every comment and especially every new follower that this blog gets :)

Here's hoping that this next year of my blog is even more successful that the last was!

TV Love #2...

Hey everyone

I've posted a couple of times now about what my current TV obsessions are (here and here) and because most of those have now finished (*le sob*) and with new shows starting my TV show preferences have changed so I though I'd share my current TV Loves with y'all :)

[via google]

You know it's autumn when Downton comes back on the TV :) It's become a Sunday night ritual between Ma and I. I love this show - I love the historical aspect, I love Mary and Matthew, the Dowager Countess is just too awesome! We just watched episode five and ohmigosh I can't even - I'm not gonna give any spoilers away but good grief it was a killer!

[via google]

This show starts tonight and it's supposed to be a comedy about modern day witches in Camden and Kensington - I figured it might be worth a shot considering all of the vampire/wolf shows out there at the moment! So I'll let you know what I think about it after!

[via google]

I stumbled across this on LOVEFiLM and thought I'd give it a shot - I cannot believe I never watched this before! I am obsessed - I've nearly finished the first series in a week!! And I'm loving the fact that I can watch lots of episodes without having to wait for a new series! Anyone else get annoyed with having to wait for new series?!

The new series of MIC starts again tonight too - I'm a sucker for this reality programme! I'd love to live in Chelsea with these guys - especially Jamie - love him!

[via google]

With my new Sherlock Holmes obsession going on I had to buy the series! Despite there only being 3 two hour episodes in each series I'm loving the modern adaptation of the classic stories - especially seeing as I've read most of the stories it's so cool to see them interpreted a different way. And it doesn't hurt that Benedict Cumberbach's voice is beautiful and he plays the eccentricities of Holmes so perfectly!
I think I want to watch Elementary (if I can find it online) - have any of you seen it? Is it any good?

What are your TV obsessions this fall?

Haul: Autumn-ness...

Hey everyone

I did I spot of shopping last week and I picked up some fab things that are just perfect for autumn, so I thought I'd share them with you :)

These cowboy (girl??!) boots were a complete impulse buy #sorryimnotsorry I've been wanting so boots like this for ever but I've never been ready to splurge on them so when I spotted these in Primarni for only £15 I knew I had to have them! I figured that even though these aren't the best quality (massive understatement) but if I like them enough and get a lot of wear out of them I think splurging for next autumn will be worth it :)

Any of you fans of cowboy boots?

I've become a massive sweater fan this autumn, this cream and tan colour combination is just beaut and the added awesomeness of elbow patches on this meant I had to have it! Again this was from Primarni and was a steal at less than £20

I found this similar sweater but in navy and chocolate brown in Matalan for around £20 - love it!

I added this cheetah onesie to my collection and...

also this cute penguin one! Who could resist these cute little guys?!

All last winter I wanted a scarf with pockets but never found one I loved so when I spotted this one with these adorabbuble hoddglehegs on it I knew it was gonna be coming home with me :)

Not that I really know what I'm gonna wear it with - any suggestions? They would be much appreciated :)

I found this mahussively oversized sweater for only a fiver! I love the graphic sweater trend going on right now  and I thought it'd look cute with my red jeans :)

Are you a fan of the graphic sweater trend?

I've blogged about my increasing obsession with Peacocks skinny jeans - they are literally my perfect skinny jeans! I ended up buying all of the pastel colours in the summer and bought the red and cobalt ones a couple of weeks ago and at £16 with 20% off with my student discount it was too hard to resist adding the grey, black and blue to my collection :P

What are your perfect skinny jeans?

I was drawn to this dress in GAP and me being drawn to dresses doesn't happen often (I'm a jeans and leggings girl!) so I figured I may as well get it - it was a tad expensive at £39 but it does have a slip under it and seeing as I don't buy many dresses I feel I can splurge a little when I find one I like :)

I wasn't planning on getting these earrings but when I tried the dress on it looked horrendous with my hair down but looked awesome when I put my hair up (just proves how much of a difference a hairstlye is to an outfit!. I hate wearing studs with my hair up and always think wearing my large hoops is a tad chavvy so I figured these would look cuter :)

A new month obviously meant I had to pick up my guilty pleasures :) Sadly I've not had chance to read them yet :( #toomuchuniwork

My obsession with all things Sherlockian continues and when I saw there was a new story out I nearly had a mental breakdown I was so excited!
I've started giving myself 3/4 of an hour before I go to sleep to read (otherwise my reading for fun just gets pushed out of my life during the academic year! Does this happen to anyone else?!) so I managed to finish this in a week - look out for this book being featured in my Book Club Friday post this week :)

Have you bought any cute fall-related things recently?

 Hey everyone

Well this week has been a crazily busy one! I'm still settling in to my timetable at uni so I feel like I've been on the go all the time - going to my lectures and labs then driving home then writing up all of my notes and trying to fit my background reading in - it's been mad! Anyway, here's MWIP...

This weeks NOTW was OPIs 'Rally Pretty Pink' - this polish is so beautiful! I may or may not have  found myself getting distracted in lectures by its beauty and how it shows different colours in different lights #sorryimnotsorry

I don't have lectures 'til 3pm on Fridays so Ma and I decided to go spend the morning doing some shopping at our local mall. I have to admit I made sure our first stop was Starbucks so we could try out the Fall drinks that finally made their way to England :D Ma had the Pumpkin Spice Latte and loved! I tried the Salted Caramel Mocha and I have to say that I really enjoyed the salty-sweetness thing but I didn't enjoy the mocha part - but that was my fault for ordering a mocha seeing as I'm not the hugest fan of coffee #oops

After doing some shopping Ma and I had lunch at our favourite little cafe; I had an asparagus, ham and cheese croissant - so good!

I wore a hoodie for the first time this season this week - a sign that the weather's turning cooler :(

This pretty sums up the differences between Ma and me in a nutshell - her in delicate nude court shoes and me in black patent combat boots #polaropposites

On Sunday there was a special service at my Grandads church to celebrate him being a Lay Reader in his parish for 50 years - such an achievement! He gives so much to his church (Nam says that his church is the third member of their marriage :P) that it was lovely to see him get some recognition for all he does :)

It was such a lovely day - I couldn't resist taking a picture of the outside of the church - it stands so beautifully.

On Monday morning the bf treated me to a Starbucks - he's so sweet driving me half an hour to just get Starbucks #lovehim. This time I got the salted caramel hot chocolate - this is definitely my new fave! So much nicer for me than the mocha was! The bf (and I really) was gutted that they had stopped doing the mocha cookie crumble frap :(

I finally picked up a Starbucks card this week and earned my first star - only 14 more to go!

Tuesday called for my new Mickey Mouse sweater to be worn - so comfy and easy to throw on with jeans and converse!

I took so many notes in my medlab lecture this week it was ridiculous - four and a half pages! #crazy

I started burning my autumn Yankee candle this week - Nature's Paintbrush. I love musky almost manly scents so this one smells divine! I love how it makes my room smell all autumnal without being sweet - I can't stand sickly sweet candle scents!

Finally I found this picture on Tumblr (this is not mine - I'm not taking credit for it) but have lost the link so my apologies - but anyway the point is; how cute is it?! To me it's like the IRL version of Puss In Boots - just too adorabubble!

Hope you had a great week! I'd love to hear what the best part of your week was, so leave me a comment!

aHm xoxo
