Chrimboli Day...

Hey everyone

I have to say, Christmas is my family's most favourite time of the year and this year really was awesome!

Nam and G spent Christmas Eve at our house with Ma and me and we had a Chinese - not very Christmas-ey but very tasty! G turned up with this hilariously tacky tie on, so I had to borrow it for a pic...

We also brought the presents up from Nam and G's that 'Santa had dropped off early' (lol) in my car - Stitch (yes I have named my car...doesn't everyone?!) looked so cute with the back all stuffed with presents...

Christmas morning saw me, Ma and Nam opening our presents in our lounge, ostensibly around our Christmas tree but Santa had spoilt us so much this year that we ended up having to overspill into the lounge :P

Here's me opening my presents; I may or may not have gotten a little over-excited and tried to wear all of my presents at once...

We spend each Christmas Day down at my Nam and G's house and this year was no exception. My Nam always makes a massive deal about Christmas and decorates everything! Here's some of the, in my opinion, best bits...
The amazing tree

 How prettily was the table decorated?

More presents - this time from the Tree (old family tradition that the Christmas Tree gives us all presents - odd, I know!)

I made this festive Rocky Road wreath too - om nom nom

Because our table was so full of decorations we had to have a second table for the food, lol

We spent the rest of Christmas Day just chilling out as a family which was really lovely. The bf came home from work to spend his Christmas with us which was awesome :)

How was your Christmas?

What've I been up to?

Hey everyone

I thought I'd do a quick post about what I've been doing recently, so here we go;

As I mentioned in one of my recent posts I passed my driving test (still yay-ing about it!) so Daddy took me car shopping; we trekked around for 4 hours in the sleet and ended up going to buy the first one we saw - typical! Here's a picture of my baby car;
Isn't she adorabubble?!

As my first outing in my car I took Mama and Nam to a local garden centre to see the Christmas decorations they had and we stumbled across this cute automated nativity scene tucked away;
How cute?!
"Omg mum it's a CAMEL!"

Following the 'first's in my new car, the bf and I went to town and he treated me to a Costa - lucky me :)

After some parking issues (a silly person decided to park literally an inch behind me, effectively trapping me in and making me do some pretty impressive manoeuvring to get out of the space - fail.) we went to visit the horses and had a walk around the lakes while we were there. Also, there may have been a slight snow ball fight going on!
It was so lovely to be wandering around in the cold, all bundled up, sipping hot chocolate (well, gingerbread latte in the case of the bf) with the one I love.

How do you like spending your winter days?

Semester Reflection...

Hey everyone

I saw a post like this from Carly on her fabulous blog and thought I'd do something similar:

I finished my first semester at uni this last Friday - it's ridiculous to think that just three short months ago I was only just making a start on this new stage in my life. Although the adjustment to my new environment has been super hard (especially without my besties) but on reflection I can already see how it has improved me as a person - I've had to become more confident to talk to new people - something I've always struggled with in the past. I've had to get used to being in a learning environment with guys -  my school/college career before uni has just been with other girls, the transition was definitely eye-opening, let me tell you! I've had to get used to working in a 'proper' lab environment - it's so much different to school/college!

I'm so happy with how everything has gone for me this semester, here's some of the things I've been loving:
  • How completely different the fashion is at uni - at college it always felt like there was so much pressure on you to look perfectly put together, all the time - something I never really got the grip of , to say the least! But at uni, everyone just rocks up in whatever they like and no one gives them a second thought. I've seem people waltz in sweatpants, hoodies, wet hair and everyone just accepts it. Although I don't think I will ever feel comfortable enough around my classmates to turn up like that, I do admire that there is no bitchy-ness (at least that I hear anyway) or prissy-ness about what people look like.
  • How even though there is literally tons of work that I have constantly piled on my desk and my to-do list is forever growing - exhibit a)

I'm really enjoying seeing how hard work actually does pay off - I got 2.1's and 1st's in all of my quizzes, reports and tests this semester - happy Bel!! Getting the results I really wanted after hard work really does motivate me to carry on studying :)
  • My amazing new besties: I honestly don't think I could've got through this semester without them - I am super lucky to have found girls who are on my wavelength and accept me (and all my foibles!) Yorkshire, London & Cambridge (I'm Cheshire, if you were wondering!) - yes, these are there actually nicknames we use on a regular basis, s'all to do with the accents! I honestly don't know how I'm gonna make it through a whole month without them (they've all gone home for Christmas) - thank goodness for Skype :)
From right to left; this is me, Yorkshire & London - what can I say, we were bored in a lecture!
  • I love how I feel like I am completely accepted into uni life now - like I know the professors, where they serve the best coffee and the campus.  We went exploring the other day inbetween lectures and visited the clock tower, how pretty?!

What's your semester been like?

It's Officially Christmas...

Hey everyone

Now that December is finally here and I'm a week into opening my advent calender Ma and I decided that it was about time to decorate the house (yay!). Every year we decide on a different colour scheme to have throughout the main area of the house - this year I am so happy because it's Lime Green -  my fave colour :)

The first job was buying the tree - we haven't had a 'real' Christmas tree for a few years and Ma decided that this was the year to break tradition and go for a 'real' tree. We went to our local Farm Shop where they had a massive selection - to be honest I'm not much of a Christmas tree expert so all I was looking at was if it was too tall and if it shed it's pine needles - haha! I decided to leave choosing the actual shape of the tree to Ma - she did well and picked  a lovely shaped tree but the downside was that it was about 6ft tall; did I mention we had to take the tree home in a mini?! It was entertaining to say the least!

After struggling to a) get the tree into the car, b) getting it out of the car and c) into the house we could finally get into the exciting bit - decorating it! Unfortunately Ma is very particular when it comes to home decor so I was relegated to stringing all the new decorations - all 60 pieces of them - fun!
So this is before....

And this is the finished product...

We also decorated around the fireplace...
Here's a little close-up of some of the decorations...
A Tiffany-esque Key ornament is definitely necessary!

And the stairs were looking a little bear (haha, you will get the joke in a min!) so we decided to put all my Harrods Christmas bears going up the stairs. I've received the the Harrods Christmas Bears every Christmas for the last 12 years so they have become a sort of tradition in our house :) Aren't they cute?!

Even my beloved piano was made a little more Christmassy...

I think my little dog, Daisy, got a tired after all that decorating!

I decided to change up my bag for uni in honour of advent...

In other news; this week I finally passed my driving test! It's taken me over a year to learn but then again I always knew that driving and I wouldn't mix well, haha! I'm so proud of myself for finally getting the confidence to prove that I can actually drive well enough to be let loose on the road, lol. Having passed my test means that this afternoon I get to go car shopping with Pa, I'm so excited but a little daunted at the prospect of having to choose something so momentous as a car - I mean I'm going to be using this thing every single day, it's not just like choosing a new bag or a new coat - it's a big deal! So, wish me luck!

Have you all decorated for Christmas already?

Nerd Alert...

Hey everyone

This week's Nerd Alert is related more to organisation rather than geeky-ness or studying and there is a story about this so please bare with me :)

So, this week I've had a literal terrible time with my bedroom - on Monday night the inside of one of my wardrobes decided to completely collapse and break - both my rails just came apart from the wall - not fun - I think it was divine intervention telling me I had waay too many clothes, so I had a little impromptu clear out - it's wasn't all bad after all! Because I was super busy with uni-related issues  I ended up spending the week  in a complete mess with my bedroom floor and spare room completely covered in clothes - definitely not good for my inner OCD.

Today I got my wardrobe fixed, I now have a lovely sturdy rail (hopefully) and a shelf - yay! And so my nerd alert for this week is the amazing (if I do say so myself) organisation of my wardrobes:
While I was in the total organisation over-haul frame of mind I decided to sort out my other wardrobe too:

Hey everyone
So, it's been a while! As I said in my last post I have been literally buried under work for uni this past couple of weeks, thankfully most of my assignments have been handed in now - thankfully -  so I should be able to blog more (hopefully); Yay!

Here's a few pictures about what I've been up to in my absence:

I just had to take a picture of my new phone & ipod cover - classic prep much?!
Only my fave candy could get me through the stressful last two weeks

I've been wanting to read this series of books (The Weather Warden Series) by Rachel Caine ever since I started reading her Morganville Vampire's Series (which I loved!) and I found them in a local cheap shop in a 3 for £5 offer - steal!

I picked up these three OPI's from Sally's last week to cheer myself up. From left to right: Mrs O'Leary's BBQ (the perfect berry colour to start of my winter collection), My Private Jet (a gorgeous deep brown with silver and black fine sparkles) & Designer...De Better (my favourite - a shimmery/sparkly metallic rose gold - beautiful)

I bought these a while ago but forget to post them; These Barry M Instant Nail Effects Foil in gold and silver were a slight impulse buy - I just thought they would be perfect for the winter party season. The final GOSH nail polish was one that my bf picked out for me (shocker!) and unfortunately it has shown up incredibly bad on camera but in real life it is a metallic purple/blue/green that changes in different lights - so unusual! And it didn't hurt that the bf took an interest in my nails, so I had to buy it, right?!

This was taken on Saturday when I went out with the bf for his birthday. All the cocktails looked soo cute, I wanted to try them all! But I tried the Midori Sour - it was literally lime green! And it came with a pink umbrella too - quintessentially prep even with my drinks haha! It tasted of melon so it was lovely and refreshing but it had a little apple sours kick at the end - so tasty!

That's basically all the interesting things that have happened to me recently so,

Hey everyone

So, it's 11/11/11 at 11:11 which means it's wish time! I thought I'd share some things that I am wishing for at the minute (literally, haha!)

  1. I wish that I can actually make it through to the Christmas holidays without completely giving up on studying because this pretty much sums up my attitude to work at the moment:
Source: we heart it
2. I wish that this rainy weather will stop soon; I don't mind the cold and frost days but I cannot stand this drizzly rain we are having at the moment!
Source: we heart it

3. I wish that Christmas would hurry up! As soon as these dark nights come rolling in my thoughts immediately turn to Christmas. I love seeing all the twinkly Christmas lights brightening up the dark afternoons/evenings.
Source: we heart it
4.  I wish I could completely redecorate my room. Don't get me wrong, I love my room as it is now - it expresses me perfectly; full of random ornaments, funky lights, colourful bedding and shed-loads of pictures/posters/postcards/notes/tickets on the walls. But I adore how rooms that are all white look - I think they look so clean, clutter-less and classy;

4.  I wish everyone would remember all the people in the armed forces that are protecting us and our country, providing us with the freedom that we usually just take for granted - not just today because it is Remembrance Day, but every day.

It only comes around once every hundred years so what did you wish for today?

Nerd Alert...

Hey everyone

First of all: my apologies for not posting this week - uni has suddenly piled on the work, I've got a lab quiz on monday, a timed essay on friday, a bioethics essay, a case report, a case study AND  a lap report which is worth 30% of my final module grade - all due in the not so distant future so it's stress central for me at the minute! So, blogging will have to take a back seat, but I can assure you that as soon as I have some free time I will be writing a post, I promise. I have just started a tumblr too so I tend to go on that when I have a spare few minutes - follow me on :)

Anyways, so reflecting my current complete submersion in my work here's my Nerd Alert pic of the week:

note the pink and green :)

So, I promise I will be back soon, until then;

Nerd Alert - Stationery Love...

Hey everyone

Hi my name is Annabel and I'm a stationery addict.

Admission is the first step to addressing the problem - haha!

So, I was browsing WHSmiths the other day and I stumbled across these goodies - I allowed myself to pick these two things up before reining myself in;

I saw these pens and just had to try them, I have to say that I'm not really a huge fan (gasp, shock horror!) of the Sharpie markers but these pens are fab - the ink dries super quickly and there is absolutely no bleeding through the page (one of my pet hates) - new fave pens, for definite!

These are literally the only mechanical pencils that I can actually
 use without breaking the lead every two seconds!

I also picked up a few books whilst I was there;

Where She Went by Gayle Forman: The picture of New York in the background of the cover of this book - I have such a love affair with this city and will literally read anything to immerse myself in New York - I can't wait to visit! The book seems to be about a standard relationship break down and the repercussion of that - a classic formula.
Heist Society by Ally Carter: I bought this one because I loved the Gallagher Girls series from this author and after reading the blurb I thought the plot was really original - seeing the inside of a crew of theives but with a young, modern twist. I read this as soon as I got home and I really liked it, let me know if you want me to review it!
Celebriteens by Joanna Philbin"Gossip Girl would love this" the quotation at the top of the cover of this book from Cecily von Ziegesar was really why I purchased it. This book appears to be a mix of the It Girl series and Gossip Girl - I loved both cult series so I'm very happy. Also, once again it's set in New York - seems like my perfect book!

Hope you enjoyed :)

Winter Warmers...

Hey everyone

Seeing as mother nature seems to decided to eventually brought autumn to England, I decided it was high time to invest in some winter knitwear. I am not usually enamored with knitwear, I am far more of a hoodie kinda girl rather than a jumper kinda girl, but considering I am at uni now I figured it was time for my style to grow up a teensy bit -  I didn't want to be the girl always turning up to class in a hoodie, leggings and uggs (no matter how cosy they are!), so here's what I purchased;

This knitted cardigan/hoodie thingy caught my eye as soon as I walked into the Matalan store, I only saw one on the shelf so I did admittedly collar an assistant and practically begged her to get me another - thankfully she complied and I got to take this cutie home! I am usually really unsure of these fair-isle-type knits but I love this one - especially the cute bobbles!
 I picked these two long-sleeved t-shirts up from my local Gap outlet for three reasons: a) I had zero striped shirts and I feel like striped shirts have become such a staple, b) these were 20% off - too great of an opportunity to pass up and c) they are so soft - perfect for looking put together but still feeling cosy!

After a good few weeks at uni now I have found that basic cardigans and tank tops are perfect to wear under my lab coat - they don't make me too warm and aren't too bulky to wear in my many lab sessions. These two are from H&M, they are simply basic cardigans for, I think around £10 each (I'm not entirely sure though), one is in navy (preppy influence) and one in in a sort of chocolate brown - I was drawn to this in the store, no idea why but after initial shoppers-guilt when I got home I do now really like it

These three jumpers are from Primark and were an actual steal at just £!0 each! I bought the cream one at the beginning of September because I thought it would be perfect to wear with leggings due to the dipped hem at the back and the chunky-ish knit just screams winter cosy-ness at me. I loved the cream one so much that I went back this weekend and bought the camel and black ones as well - I feel that I can justify buying 'one in every colour' because they are only from Primark and I do really love them!

Now, I know these technically go against my mature knitwear buying theme for this haul but I couldn't completely wean myself off buying hoodies. Again these are from H&M and I think they were around £20 each. I bought these to add to my collection of hoodies basically just because they had Nantucket and The Hamptons graphics on them - sad but true. I never see anything with these two of my fave places on them so I felt it was my destiny to buy them - well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

 Finally, this is a knitted headband thingy from Primark, my mum bought it for me so I have no idea how much it cost - though considering it is Primarni I really don't think it will break the bank! I think this will be super cute when it gets really wintery instead of a hat!

Well, that's all for my haul - hope you enjoyed :)
